Former Defense Sec Lorenzana receives Japan's Order of the Rising Sun

Former Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana received Japan’s Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star for his role in strengthening defense relations.

The award was conferred by Japanese Ambassador Koshikawa Kazuhiko on behalf of Emperor Naruhito during a ceremony on June 30.

The Order of the Rising Sun, established in 1875, is given to individuals with exceptional achievements.

Ambassador Koshikawa commended Lorenzana's leadership and progressive achievements during his six-year tenure.

Under Lorenzana's leadership, the Philippines and Japan signed an agreement for the transfer of defense equipment and technology in 2019.

This included the transfer of five TC90 maritime reconnaissance aircraft, SAR equipment, and P1 billion worth of helicopter spare parts.

A contract for four air surveillance radar systems worth US$103 million was also signed with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in 2018.

Lorenzana also participated in the first 2+2 Defense and Foreign Affairs ministerial meetings between the Philippines and Japan in April 2022.
