Loren Legarda opposes proposed nuclear power plant in Antique

Senator Loren Legarda strongly opposes the proposed construction of a nuclear power plant in her home province of Antique.

She vowed to block the project at every stage and threatened to oppose the budget of any government agency pursuing the study.

Legarda questioned the suitability of Antique, citing its susceptibility to floods, mountainous terrain, and indigenous communities.

Environment Secretary Raphael Lotilla clarified that the Department of Energy (DOE) chairs an inter-agency committee on the nuclear program that is conducting the studies.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) is also a leading member in identifying suitable sites for the nuclear energy project.
