Lawyers tapped to help arrested PISTON 6 drivers

Various personalities and groups are extending aid to the six jeepney drivers, collectively known as the "PISTON 6," who were arrested and detained for staging a protest in Caloocan City.

Commission on Elections Commissioner Rowena Guanzon has assigned a lawyer to assist the drivers and pledged financial support for their bail.

2019 Bar topnotcher Mae Diane Azores is also coordinating efforts to expedite the release of the PISTON 6.

The drivers, who are mostly elderly, were arrested after holding a protest on EDSA to call for the resumption of their operations in Metro Manila due to financial hardship.

Authorities charged the six drivers with violating the prohibition against non-essential mass gathering and with resistance and disobedience to a person in authority.

The PISTON 6 drivers will have to spend three more days in jail until Tuesday as their lawyers have not yet received a court resolution regarding their bail due to issues like lost internet connection at the Metropolitan Trial Court of Caloocan.

The court is closed on weekends and will be closed on Monday for disinfection.
