Lanao del Sur ready for parliamentary elections amid security concerns

Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Adiong Jr. declared the province ready for the October 13 Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections.

The PNP has intensified security, including checkpoints and operations against private armed groups, to ensure a peaceful election.

Acting PNP Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. affirmed the PNP's mission for a fear-free voting experience and strict neutrality.

From August 14 to September 16, the PNP conducted 14,828 checkpoints, resulting in 22 arrests and the confiscation of 32 firearms.

Regional Joint Security Control Centers are activated to enhance real-time coordination between the PNP, AFP, and Comelec.

Governor Adiong acknowledged the Special Assistant to the President Anton Lagdameo's role in strengthening national government and BARMM partnership.

However, former government peace negotiators have expressed concern that tensions over MILF factions and the upcoming elections could spiral out of control.
