Lacson, Sotto to skip Comelec debates due to schedule clash

Presidential aspirant Senator Panfilo Lacson and his running mate, Senate President Vicente Sotto III, are likely to skip the final Commission on Elections (Comelec) debates due to a sudden schedule change.

The Comelec postponed the presidential debates to April 30 and May 1 due to the poll body's contractor's debt to the debate venue.

Lacson and Sotto were informed of the postponement on April 21, just two days before the initially scheduled debates.

The tandem has existing commitments in Masbate and Metro Manila on April 30 and May 1, which they cannot reschedule.

Senate President Sotto stated that their supporters in these areas were already looking forward to their events and they could not let them down.

Senator Lacson believes his potential absence in the debate would not be a substantial loss to his campaign, citing his performance in earlier debates.
