PH to host WSL longboard qualifying event in La Union

The Philippines will host the first-ever La Union International Pro, a World Surf League (WSL) longboard qualifying event, from January 20-24 in Urbiztondo Beach.

This competition offers four direct tickets to the 2026 WSL Longboard Tour and is anticipated to draw a large international field.

WSL Longboard tour director Will Hayden-Smith highlighted the event's goal of increasing opportunities for longboarders globally.

Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Patrick "Pato" Gregorio expressed excitement about the event, seeing it as a boost to the country's sports tourism initiatives.

The competition will feature both male and female longboarders competing on the waves of Monalisa Point in San Juan.

In 2025, hometown hero Rogelio Esquievel Jr. won the event for the third consecutive year, defeating fellow Filipino Perry Ventura in the finals.
