La Salle's Mike Phillips leads UAAP Season 88 stats race

La Salle Green Archers captain Mike Phillips is leading the statistical points race in the UAAP Season 88 men's basketball tournament at the end of the first round.

Phillips has amassed 84.429 statistical points through seven games, averaging 13.3 points, 15.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.9 blocks per contest.

His performance has helped La Salle secure a 4-3 record, placing them in a three-way tie for third place with rivals Ateneo and UP.

Phillips' importance to the team has grown significantly after key players Mason Amos and Kean Baclaan suffered torn MCLs, and the team is also without last season's MVP Kevin Quiambao.

University of Santo Tomas' Collins Akowe trails Phillips by a slim margin with 84.286 SPs, averaging 16.3 points, 15.3 rebounds, two blocks, 1.3 assists, and one steal.

Akowe's performance has powered the Growling Tigers to a solo-second 5-2 record, positioning him to challenge Phillips for the top spot and the Best Foreign Student-Athlete award.
