Kanlaon evacuees urged to stay in evacuation centers
More than 6,000 residents from five villages in Canlaon City have been evacuated from the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone around Mt. Kanlaon due to its ongoing unrest.
These 2,029 families, totaling 6,541 individuals, were relocated to nine evacuation centers.
The affected barangays are Pula, Masulog, Linothangan, Malaiba, and Lumapao.
One adult male per family is allowed to visit farms daily between early morning and 4 p.m. to attend to livelihoods, with strict accountability measures.
Efforts are underway to relocate farm animals from the danger zone to safer locations.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) urged evacuees to stay in the evacuation centers, even through the Christmas holidays, due to the volcano's continued restiveness.
OCD Administrator Ariel Nepomuceno stressed that safety is the priority and emphasized that no rescues would be possible within the danger zone in case of an eruption.
