Justin Brownlee gets WADA notice for adverse analytical finding

Barangay Ginebra import Justin Brownlee has received a notice of an adverse analytical finding (AAF) from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), confirmed by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).

Brownlee is being assisted by his US-based lawyers, and the SBP is awaiting a ruling from the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).

This finding follows a previous positive test for Carboxy-THC, a substance linked to cannabis use, which resulted in a three-month ban for Brownlee in late 2023.

Sources suggest the latest test samples may have been taken during Brownlee's participation with Gilas Pilipinas in the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers last February.

The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is waiting for the SBP's action before deciding on any sanctions under league rules.

If found guilty again, Brownlee could face a new, potentially lengthier suspension, impacting Gilas Pilipinas' plans for the 2025 Asia Cup in Saudi Arabia.
