Justice Secretary Remulla shortlisted for Ombudsman post

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has been shortlisted as a candidate for Ombudsman after securing clearance from the Office of the Ombudsman, which has been forwarded to the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC).

The JBC requires this clearance, confirming no pending cases, for nominees to be considered for submission to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Administrative and criminal cases filed against Remulla by Senator Imee Marcos and Davao City Mayor Sebastian "Baste" Duterte, related to the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte, have been dismissed.

However, Senator Marcos has filed a motion for reconsideration seeking a reversal of the acting Ombudsman's ruling.

Remulla has not commented on whether the motions for reconsideration filed by Marcos and Duterte have also been dismissed, stating only that his clearance is already with the JBC.

At least three complaints against Remulla have been filed at the Office of the Ombudsman in connection with the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte and Philippine Offshore and Gaming Operators personalities Shiela Guo and Cassandra Li Ong.
