Coronel steps up as new captain for Lady Spikers' title defense

Julia Coronel is embracing her new role as team captain and primary playmaker for the De La Salle Lady Spikers as they begin their title defense in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament.

Following the departure of last season's Best Setter and Finals MVP Mars Alba, Coronel has stepped up to lead the team, filling the void left by Alba.

Coronel feels she has successfully adjusted to her expanded responsibilities over the past few months and is grateful for the trust given to her by the coaching staff and her teammates.

She acknowledged that her teammates and coaches trust her to fill the crucial role.

The Lady Spikers will open their title-retention campaign against Adamson University on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Coronel mentioned that former players Mars Alba and Jolina Dela Cruz have provided her with encouragement and advice to help her prepare for this bigger responsibility.

She is motivated by the advice of past seniors to uphold the team's established culture.

La Salle remains stacked with players like reigning MVP Angel Canino, Thea Gagate, and Alleiah Malaluan.
