Josh Ybañez to play libero for Alas Pilipinas in World Championship

Multi-awarded University of Santo Tomas (UST) spiker Josh Ybañez has embraced the challenging libero position to help Alas Pilipinas in the upcoming FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship.

He is willing to adapt to the less glamorous role for the national team, viewing the pressure as constant and focusing on enjoying his role and learning from every game.

Ybañez, a two-time UAAP MVP, is honored by the trust of coach Angiolino Frigoni, which has helped him overcome any initial doubts about returning to his natural role before college.

He relishes the chance to be part of the World Championship, a historic first for the Philippines.

Ybañez, who also bagged Best Libero honors in the SEA V.League, is competing for a spot in the final 14-member roster for the 32-nation tournament.

The tournament is set from September 12 to 28 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena and Araneta Coliseum.

The Philippine National Volleyball Federation announced it has moved the opening day duel between the Filipinos and the Tunisians from 6 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 12 at the MOA Arena.
