Cavite Governor Juanito Victor "Jonvic" Remulla Jr. has officially assumed the post of Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary, with President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. administering his oath.
Remulla, who has nearly 30 years of experience in local governance, replaces Benhur Abalos.
Marcos has instructed Remulla to recommend structural reforms for DILG agencies and improve local government response to citizens.
The new DILG chief vowed to close all Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) hubs in the country, including one in Island Cove Resort.
He stated that the Island Cove POGO owners have agreed to close down by December 15.
Remulla also aims to address structural changes within the Philippine National Police (PNP) and remove politics and the "palakasan" system.
The PNP has welcomed Remulla's appointment and committed its full support to him.
