John Lloyd Cruz wins best actor at QCinema for Moneyslapper

John Lloyd Cruz won the Best Lead Performance award at the 2024 QCinema International Film Festival for his role as Daniel in "Moneyslapper."

Daniel is a man who leaves his hometown after winning the lottery but returns years later.

The award-giving body praised Cruz's "fearless portrayal" for adding "depth and intensity" to the film's dark humor and social commentary.

"Moneyslapper" was part of the Asian Next Wave competition at the festival and faced rejections from the Metro Manila Film Festival.

Cruz, who also served as co-creative producer, dedicated his win to the film's director, Bor Ocampo, and his mother.

He expressed gratitude to his mother, acknowledging the pain and problems he caused her.
