Jacob Cortez wins UAAP championship with La Salle, forging own legacy

Jacob Cortez has successfully forged his own legacy with De La Salle University, winning a UAAP championship and stepping out of his father Mike Cortez's shadow.

After transferring from San Beda to La Salle, Jacob aimed to replicate his father's collegiate success by winning a UAAP championship.

He achieved this goal by helping La Salle dethrone the University of the Philippines in Season 88, marking a significant personal triumph.

Cortez is now a champion in both the UAAP and NCAA, having also led San Beda to the 2023 crown.

Mike Cortez expressed pride in his son's accomplishment, noting that Jacob's championship win with La Salle completed a journey filled with pressure and perseverance.

This championship serves as a redemption for La Salle after their performance in Season 87 and adds to the Cortez family's basketball legacy.

Much like in his title run with the Lions, Cortez had to endure a twice-to-win disadvantage in the UAAP Final Four.

Cortez found support from former San Beda teammate Yukien Andrada, who offered words of encouragement during the UAAP finals, reminding Cortez of their shared championship experience.
