Inting named acting Comelec chair

Commissioner Socorro Inting has been appointed as the acting chairperson of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), effective until a new chairperson is formally appointed and assumes office.

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez expressed confidence in Inting's leadership, citing her performance in gender and development initiatives and streamlining case resolution.

Inting's designation was approved by the Comelec en banc on February 3, replacing retired chairperson Sheriff Abas.

The Comelec has also reorganized its two divisions, with Acting Chairperson Inting now presiding over the Comelec First Division, replacing retired Commissioner Rowena Guanzon, and joined by Commissioner Aimee Ferolino.

The Second Division will now be headed by Commissioner Marlon Casquejo, with newly-appointed Commissioner Rey Bulay as his colleague.

Cases filed after February 9, or those not yet raffled, will be assigned to the newly reorganized divisions.

Cases already raffled to the former divisions will be retained in their respective divisions to ensure orderly and speedy disposition.
