Immigration team set up for Hubei repatriates

A special team of immigration officers has been formed to handle the arrival of Filipinos repatriated from Hubei, China, the origin of the novel coronavirus.

Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete emphasized that immigration formalities are essential for national security and to verify identities, ensuring the country's security is not compromised.

The team has undergone briefings by the Bureau of Quarantine and will be provided with necessary protective gear.

Two chartered flights are on standby to evacuate Filipinos from Hubei province, with the Philippine government coordinating with Chinese authorities for clearance.

The Philippine consulate in Shanghai is processing the repatriation of Filipinos from Hubei, where approximately 300 Filipinos reside, with 50 indicating a wish to return home.
