Iloilo Airport resumes ops after runway pothole repair

The Iloilo International Airport resumed regular operations on Monday, December 23, 2024, after a four-hour emergency closure on Sunday, December 22, to repair two potholes on Runway 02.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) stated that the runway closure, from 7:15 a.m. to 11 a.m., was necessary to ensure flight safety despite potential inconvenience to travelers and the local economy.

Nine domestic flights were affected, resulting in three cancellations, one diversion, and five delays.

A Notice to Airmen was issued on December 21 to alert airlines of the urgent repairs.

Iloilo Airport Manager Manuela Luisa Palma assured that passenger safety is the top priority.

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas summoned CAAP Iloilo officials to explain the lack of prior announcement regarding the closure, though he later erroneously claimed to be the chairperson of the Regional Development Council-6.
