Ilocos Sur confirms first COVID-19 case

Ilocos Sur confirmed its first COVID-19 case: a 55-year-old female resident of Barangay Magsaysay in Tagudin.

The patient was initially admitted to Ilocos Sur District Hospital-Tagudin on March 21 due to loss of consciousness, then transferred to Bethany Hospital in La Union where her swab test was conducted on March 22.

While her family initially denied symptoms, further investigation revealed she had been experiencing coughing, a cold, and intermittent fever since March 18.

Her son, who arrived from the United States on March 8, is known to have had symptoms of fever, body pains, and sore throat.

Governor Ryan Luis Singson announced that Barangay Magsaysay is under extreme enhanced community quarantine, prohibiting entry and exit.

Extensive contact tracing is ongoing, and as of March 28, the province has seven patients under investigation (PUIs) and 10,385 persons under monitoring (PUMs).
