ICI pushes for restitution of illegally acquired wealth

Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) chairman Andres Reyes is advocating for the restitution of illegally acquired wealth, stating that justice alone is insufficient to fully heal the nation.

Reyes emphasized the need for government agencies to collaborate and recover assets from individuals responsible for anomalous flood control projects.

The ICI convened a meeting with various government bodies, including the BIR, Securities and Assets Commission, DOJ, and DPWH, to discuss asset recovery strategies.

Reyes asserted that the recovered assets rightfully belong to the Filipino people and could have been invested in public services like schools, hospitals, and roads.

The push for restitution follows the withdrawal of cooperation from contractors Curlee and Sarah Discaya, who cited a lack of qualified state witnesses.
