ICI pushes for restitution of ill-gotten wealth from anomalous projects

Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) chairman Andres Reyes is advocating for the restitution of illegally acquired wealth, stating that justice alone is insufficient to fully heal the nation.

Reyes emphasized the need for government agencies to collaborate and recover assets from individuals responsible for anomalous flood control projects.

Eighteen agencies participated in a recent meeting convened by the ICI, with representatives forming a technical working group on restitution that will meet at least weekly.

The recovered assets, which could have been invested in public services, were used by corrupt individuals for luxuries and vices instead of building schools, hospitals, and roads.

The push for restitution follows the withdrawal of cooperation from contractors Curlee and Sarah Discaya, who cited a lack of qualified state witnesses.
