IATF to discuss NCR Alert Level 4 as cases surge

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) will discuss the potential elevation of the National Capital Region (NCR) to Alert Level 4 due to the exponential growth of COVID-19 cases.

As of January 7, Metro Manila's positivity rate was reported at 50.5%, and the NCR recorded an average of 8,468 new cases from January 2 to 8, a 785 percent increase from the previous week.

On January 9, the DOH reported 28,707 new COVID-19 cases nationwide, with 59% of them logged in the NCR.

Despite calls to elevate the quarantine status, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles stated on January 10 that Metro Manila has not yet met the three metrics required for Alert Level 4, which include the two-week growth rate, average daily attack rate, and total healthcare utilization.

Nograles assured that the IATF is continuously monitoring the situation and will not hesitate to place Metro Manila under Alert Level 4 if the qualifications are met.

Currently, Metro Manila and several surrounding provinces remain under Alert Level 3.
