The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases has directed government agencies and local government units to adopt a revised classification system for individuals being checked for COVID-19.
The new guidelines were approved by the IATF on Monday night upon the recommendation of the National Task Force on COVID-19.
Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles stated that state departments and LGUs should include these new guidelines in their subsequent documents and update existing issuances.
The Department of Health had previously modified its classification for COVID-19 cases on Saturday.
Under the previous system, individuals were classified as 'patients under investigation' (PUIs) or 'persons under monitoring' (PUMs) since January 28.
The new system categorizes individuals with mild, severe, or critical symptoms who have not yet been tested as 'suspect' cases, those tested with uncertain results or in unofficial laboratories as 'probable' cases, and those who tested positive as 'confirmed' cases.
The previous classification of 'persons under monitoring' has been removed.
