Hunger drops among Walang Gutom Program beneficiaries

Hunger levels significantly dropped among households supported by the "Walang Gutom Program," a joint initiative by the DSWD and Globe, according to a nationwide study.

A Social Weather Stations (SWS) study found that hunger among beneficiaries declined by 4.1 percentage points from October to December 2024, falling from 48.7% to 44.6%.

Meanwhile, hunger among non-beneficiaries rose by 6.1 points, widening the gap between the two groups to 10.2 percentage points.

Notable improvements were recorded in high-risk areas such as BARMM-Plus, where hunger among participants dropped by 7.3 points, and in Central-South provinces, where the decline was 5.7 points.

Globe's Yoly Crisanto stated that the study proves public and private sectors can make a real difference when working together.

The program is expected to expand to 300,000 more families in 2025 and reach one million households by 2027.
