Ex-DICT chief warns Konektadong Pinoy Bill risks nat'l security

Former DICT Secretary Gregorio Honasan warns that the Konektadong Pinoy Bill, in its current form, poses national security risks due to inadequate safeguards for the Philippines' digital infrastructure.

Honasan specifically pointed out the lack of a legally mandated national security vetting process for Data Transmission Participants (DTPs), stating that the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) alone are insufficient for proper scrutiny and accountability.

He expressed concern that the bill is too lenient towards foreign-controlled firms operating critical infrastructure like cable landing stations and satellite gateways.

The former senator also highlighted the absence of clear, legally grounded penalties for companies that violate the bill's regulations, which could result in severe system disruptions.

Honasan stressed that without these robust measures, the bill could compromise the integrity and security of the nation's digital systems.
