Hidilyn Diaz cheers for EJ Obiena after Paris Olympics finish

Tokyo Olympian Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo encouraged fellow Filipino athlete EJ Obiena after his fourth-place finish in the men's pole vault final at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Obiena narrowly missed a podium finish, which would have been a significant achievement for the Philippines in athletics after nearly 90 years.

He apologized to Filipinos and his supporters for falling short of an Olympic medal, but celebrities like Diaz, Iya Villania, and Isabelle Daza reacted by pouring their support.

Diaz expressed her gratitude for Obiena's best effort representing the Philippines and stated she is looking forward to his participation in the #LA2028 Olympics.

Villania also expressed pride and respect for Obiena's hard work, while Daza acknowledged him as a trailblazer in Philippine sports.

Obiena was unable to clear the 5.95m height, leading to his fourth-place result.

The gold medal was won by Mondo Duplantis of Sweden, who also set new Olympic and world records, with Sam Kendricks of the USA taking silver and Emmanouil Karalis of Greece securing the bronze.
