Gwen Grecia de Vera is new UP Law dean

Gwen Grecia de Vera has been appointed as the new dean of the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law, succeeding Darlene Marie Berberabe.

Berberabe was appointed solicitor general by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in May.

De Vera secured the deanship after besting UP vice president for legal affairs Abraham Rey Acosta and associate dean Andre Palacios.

A longtime member of the UP Law faculty and an alumna who graduated in 1995, De Vera served as associate professor and examiner for political and international law in the 2020/2021 Bar Examinations.

She previously served as the first executive director of the Philippine Competition Commission and has built a reputation in regulatory law, public-private partnerships, and competition policy.

De Vera ranked seventh in the 1996 Bar Examinations and holds a Master of Laws degree from Northwestern University in the US.
