Grand Mufti calls Duterte's Jolo visit gesture sign of humility

Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Grand Mufti Abuhuraira Udasan described President Rodrigo Duterte's act of kissing the ground at the Jolo blast site as an "utmost sign of humility."

Udasan stated that humility transcends boundaries and religious affiliations.

The President visited Jolo following the August 24 twin explosions, which killed 17 people and wounded 75 others, and were believed to have been carried out by suicide bombers affiliated with the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG).

Senator Christopher Go shared photos of President Duterte performing this act of reverence while wearing a face mask during the visit.

Duterte stated that his gesture was in remembrance of the victims whose lives were lost senselessly.

Anwar Kuit Emblawa, secretary of Mayor Marop Ampatuan of Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao, echoed Udasan's views, saying the President's gesture was "heartfelt and unquestionable."
