Rep. Magsino urges PH gov't to prepare for US deportation of 300,000 Filipinos

OFW party-list Representative Marissa Magsino urged the Philippine government to prepare for the potential mass deportation of an estimated 300,000 undocumented Filipinos from the United States once US President-elect Donald Trump assumes office.

Magsino emphasized the need for comprehensive social safety nets, reintegration programs, and mechanisms for job retooling, re-skilling, and employment facilitation for those affected.

She stressed that the opportunities available to returning Filipinos should be comparable to the jobs they might leave behind in the US.

Philippine Ambassador to the United States Babes Romualdez advised undocumented Filipino immigrants in the US to return home proactively rather than wait for deportation.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has stated its readiness to assist undocumented Filipinos, preparing support mechanisms including financial, medical, and legal aid through its AKSYON Fund and emergency repatriation fund.
