Gordon asked to share info on alleged cash smuggling by Chinese nationals

Malacañang has requested Senator Richard Gordon to share information regarding Chinese nationals allegedly bringing substantial amounts of cash into the Philippines, potentially for illicit activities.

Senator Gordon previously stated that approximately $188 million in cash was brought into the country by Chinese nationals between December and February, and revealed that syndicates, some from China, brought in $370 million in cash to the Philippines last year according to the Bureau of Customs.

Gordon expressed concern that such large sums could be used for anomalous purposes and questioned why the Palace seems "hurt" whenever China is involved in issues.

Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo urged Senator Gordon to provide intelligence reports to aid the government in pursuing these concerns.

In his report, Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero said the suspected syndicates were protected by members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine National Police.
