Gloria Romero, 91, passes away peacefully, daughter confirms

Gloria Romero, the renowned Filipino actress and television icon, has passed away at the age of 91, confirmed by her daughter Maritess Gutierrez.

Romero was celebrated as a major star of the first Golden Age of Philippine Cinema, known for her extensive contributions to the film industry, having appeared in over 250 movies and TV productions.

She received numerous accolades, including Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress awards from prestigious institutions such as FAMAS, the Film Academy of the Philippines, and the Gawad Urian Awards.

Her notable film works include 'Dalagang Ilocana' (1954), 'Sino Ang May Sala' (1957), 'Paru-Parong Bukid' (1958), 'Nagbabagang Luha' (1988), and 'Tanging Yaman' (2000).

Romero's legacy was recently honored in February 2024 with a special tribute celebrating her 90th birthday, attended by fellow actors and movie luminaries.

She was also named one of the Film Development Council of the Philippines' Lifetime Achievement Honorees in April 2024.

The wake for Gloria Romero will be held at the Arlington Memorial Chapel in Quezon City.

Her daughter, Maritess Gutierrez, confirmed that she passed 'peacefully' in her sleep and expressed gratitude for the support and condolences received from the public.

Romero is survived by her only child and her grandson, Chris Gutierrez.
