Global Ferronickel director resigns amid citizenship concerns

Joseph Sy resigned as a director of Global Ferronickel Holdings Inc. due to personal considerations and for the best interests of the company.

Sy's resignation follows his arrest on August 21 for allegedly misrepresenting himself as a Filipino citizen, with his fingerprints matching those of a Chinese citizen facing deportation.

He is currently detained at the Bureau of Immigration's facility in Taguig City while his case is on appeal.

Sy also invoked his right to remain silent regarding his birthplace and upbringing during a Senate subcommittee appearance due to pending legal cases.

It remains unclear if Sy will divest his minority share in Global Ferronickel, which is approximately 0.1 percent of the company's outstanding shares, and the board will decide on his replacement soon.
