Gilas Pilipinas women's basketball team falls to 0-4 in William Jones Cup

The Gilas Pilipinas women's basketball team suffered a close 85-82 defeat against the Japanese club team Mitsubishi Electric in the William Jones Cup, marking their second consecutive loss.

Janine Pontejos was the top scorer for the Philippines with 18 points, including five three-pointers, in the loss to Mitsubishi Electric.

The loss placed Gilas Pilipinas at a 0-2 record in the tournament, while Mitsubishi Electric remained undefeated.

Subsequently, the team suffered another overtime loss to Taiwan A, 99-91, dropping their record to 0-3, with Janine Pontejos scoring 17 points.

The team then lost to South Korea 92-80 in its fourth game, dropping their record to a tournament-worst 0-4.

Afril Bernardino had her best game of the tournament with 24 points and four steals, while Jack Danielle Animam added 13 points and eight boards in the loss to South Korea.

Gilas will play Taiwan B on Sunday for its final game of the tournament.
