Gilas Pilipinas finishes 8th in FIBA Asia Cup, eyes World Cup qualifiers

Gilas Pilipinas concluded their 2025 FIBA Asia Cup campaign with a quarterfinal exit after losing to Australia.

The team achieved a top-eight finish, showing improvement from their ninth-place standing in the 2022 edition.

Following the Asia Cup, PBA players will prepare for the league's 50th season in October, while overseas-based guards and forwards return to their respective teams in Japan and Korea.

By November, coach Tim Cone and company will shift focus to the 2027 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers, which begin November 28 against Guam.

The Philippines is in Pool A with Australia, New Zealand, and Guam, with their campaign spanning five windows from November to March 2027.

Before the qualifiers, Gilas will participate in the 2025 Southeast Asian Games in December in Thailand, with coach Norman Black calling the shots.
