Gilas Pilipinas, Australia brawl during FIBA qualifiers

On July 2, 2018, a massive on-court brawl erupted between the Philippine national basketball team, Gilas Pilipinas, and the Australian national team during a 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers game held at the Philippine Arena.

The intense melee, which involved players from both sides throwing punches, kicks, and even chairs, led to 13 players being ejected from the game.

The Philippines ultimately lost the match by default with a score of 53-89.

Following the incident, FIBA imposed suspensions on ten Gilas players, with Calvin Abueva receiving the longest ban of six games, while head coach Chot Reyes was suspended for one game and fined.

Australian players Daniel Kickert, Thon Maker, and Chris Goulding also faced suspensions, and the three referees were suspended for a year.
