GenSan raises weekly Covid-19 vaccination target to 30,000

General Santos City has raised its weekly Covid-19 vaccination target to 30,000 individuals to expedite the goal of achieving population protection by year-end.

The city government aims to inoculate at least 5,000 people daily, or 30,000 a week, to vaccinate 70% of the city's 800,000 population by November.

Mayor Ronnel Rivera aims to reach 70 percent population protection by October or November to ease current restrictions and allow the local economy to normalize.

The city is currently under Alert Level 4 due to rising community transmissions and the threat of new Covid-19 variants, including the Delta strain.

As of August 13, a total of 105,759 vaccine doses have been administered, with 40,691 fully vaccinated and 65,068 awaiting their second doses.

The Department of Health (DOH) has tagged General Santos City as a high-risk area, having the most Covid-19 infections in the Soccsksargen region.
