Gatchalian proposes bridge loans for MSMEs

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian proposed bridge loan packages for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to help them pay employee salaries during the enhanced community quarantine.

Gatchalian emphasized the need to support businesses, especially small ones, that continue to pay salaries despite earning no income.

He also urged business owners to temporarily set aside their 'no work, no pay' policy.

The senator called for the swift release of the P1.3-billion COVID Adjustment Measures Program (CAMP) financial aid, noting that red tape is delaying its distribution.

Gatchalian stressed that workers displaced by the quarantine deserve immediate compensation to prevent them from seeking income on the streets.

He recommended that the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) simplify requirements for CAMP and collaborate with local government units (LGUs) for efficient distribution.

Additionally, Gatchalian mentioned that DOLE will provide emergency employment assistance for workers in the informal sector.
