Garma eyed as ICC witness vs Duterte

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla confirmed that retired police colonel Royina Garma is eyed as a prosecution witness for the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the crimes against humanity case against former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Garma traveled to Malaysia to meet with ICC representatives, potentially to testify at the confirmation of charges hearing in The Hague.

Remulla stated that former senator Antonio Trillanes informed him of Garma's agreement to be a witness.

The government provided protection for Garma by allowing her to meet ICC representatives abroad, as her life could be in danger in the Philippines.

Remulla clarified that the cautious working relationship between the government and the ICC involves witness protection.
