Dizon on 'overpriced' PPE procurement: There was a tremendous demand
Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. and National Task Force (NTF) Deputy Chief Implementer Vince Dizon defended the government's procurement of expensive personal protective equipment (PPE) during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Galvez stated that 37 doctors were dying daily at the beginning of the pandemic due to a lack of protective gear, prompting their hurried procurement efforts.
Dizon noted that in Metro Manila alone, there were close to 40 doctors in intensive care units due to infections from insufficient PPE.

Galvez also claimed that the P1,700 per piece cost of PPEs bought from China was lower than the pricing under the previous administration.
