Some foreign carriers are seeking approval to collect terminal enhancement fees at NAIA to offset rising costs, according to the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB).
These international carriers, represented as a group, are waiting for the outcome of similar proposals from domestic airlines before formally submitting their own.
The CAB Executive Director Carmelo L. Arcilla confirmed that a few foreign carriers have indicated their intention to file for these fees.
Last year, local airlines including Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia Philippines requested CAB approval for a terminal enhancement fee.
This move follows increased airport charges from NAIA's private operator, New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), which took over operations.
The proposed fees are P150 for domestic roundtrip flights and up to P300 each way for international flights.
If approved, these fees would be itemized separately on passenger receipts, similar to fuel surcharges and VAT.
