Fires in Davao, CDO leave over 400 families homeless

Massive fires in Davao City and Cagayan de Oro City on Thursday, October 2, 2025, rendered over 400 families homeless.

In Davao City's Barangay 21-C, a fire destroyed at least 400 houses across five sub-villages, displacing affected families who are now sheltered in gymnasiums.

Davao City's Acting Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte II visited the displaced families, promising financial assistance.

In Cagayan de Oro City, a separate fire in Barangay 17 affected 138 houses and displaced around 204 families.

The cause of the fire in Cagayan de Oro is under investigation, with allegations of children playing with matches being denied by a father who suggested faulty electrical wiring.

Affected residents in Cagayan de Oro are taking shelter temporarily under the Marcos Bridge, with a community kitchen set up for food assistance.

The barangay chairman appealed for donations of building materials such as hollow blocks, cement, and rebars to help survivors rebuild their homes with sturdier materials before Christmas.
