Fire inspector dismissed for grave misconduct, extortion

A fire inspector has been found guilty by the Ombudsman and dismissed from service for administrative liability, grave misconduct, and violating Republic Act 6713.

The inspector was previously arrested by the NBI in an entrapment operation for attempting to extort P400,000 from a job applicant.

The job applicant claimed the fire inspector demanded 'thanksgiving money' to ensure her inclusion in the final roster for the Fire Safety Officer I position.

Despite being qualified, the applicant was allegedly denied the position due to the absence of a 'backer'.

As a consequence of the conviction, the fire inspector faces perpetual disqualification from holding public office, forfeiture of retirement benefits, and a ban from the Civil Service Exam.
