Film "Lakambini" to inspire youth with Gregoria de Jesus's legacy

Creative producer Ellen Ongkeko-Marfil hopes the film "Lakambini" will inspire the youth by showcasing the life story and legacy of Gregoria de Jesus, also known as Ka Oriang and the Lakambini of the Katipunan.

Initially, Ongkeko-Marfil aimed to simply introduce Gregoria de Jesus to younger audiences, but the project evolved into a deeper exploration of integrity and patriotism.

Ongkeko-Marfil was particularly struck by Gregoria de Jesus's courage and conviction at a young age, noting her letter to the gobernadorcillo at 18 against her parents' wishes and her active participation in the revolution.

She highlighted that Gregoria de Jesus was a revolutionary at 22, not merely a wife but an independent individual who accompanied Andres Bonifacio during his trial and even filed a complaint, demonstrating bravery far ahead of her time.

Ongkeko-Marfil believes that Gregoria de Jesus's narrative of integrity and courage is particularly relevant and necessary for the current generation facing national challenges.
