Filipino chess players bag medals in Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championships

Filipino FIDE Masters Christian Gian Karlo Arca and Ivan Travis Cu secured podium finishes in the rapid event of the 9th Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championships in Zhuhai, China.

Arca settled for silver in the open Under-16 section after a defeat in the penultimate round, but also clinched a standard gold and a blitz bronze in the tournament.

Cu earned a bronze medal in the premier U18 class after falling to the eventual winner in the fifth round, and also secured a blitz gold.

Jemaicah Mendoza achieved a gold medal in the girls' Under-14 standard event with 8.5 out of 9 points.

Ruelle Canino, a veteran of the World Cup and Olympiad, earned a bronze medal in the girls' Under-18 category.
