Award-winning tenor Sofronio Vasquez, winner of "The Voice USA", will sing the Philippine national anthem at President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 28.
The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) selected Vasquez as a tribute to Filipino talent and national pride, reflecting the administration's intent to blend tradition and excellence in this year's SONA ceremony.
Vasquez expressed his excitement and pride in returning to the Philippines to perform, stating "Ngayon, I was brought back to sing. So, excited na excited ako. And nakaka-proud lang na kahit saan ka magpunta, you always come back to your chosen land."
He previously competed in "Tawag ng Tanghalan" and its all-star edition, holds a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree, and worked as a dental assistant in the United States.
Vasquez won the 26th season of "The Voice" in the United States under coach Michael Bublé.
The singing of the national anthem is a key ceremonial element of the SONA, setting the tone for the President's annual address.
During the SONA, Marcos is expected to outline his administration's key accomplishments, policy priorities, and plans to improve the lives of Filipinos.
