Filipino nurse dies of COVID-19 in UAE

A Filipino nurse, Marlon Jimenea, who worked in the intensive care unit of the University Hospital Sharjah in the UAE, has died from COVID-19.

Jimenea, 44, had a check-up for a cough on April 2, but tested negative for influenza A and B, and was sent home with antibiotics.

He was admitted to the emergency room that same evening and transferred to the ICU, where he was intubated.

He experienced 6 cardiac arrests during his 21-day stay in the ICU before succumbing to the virus.

The Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) UAE chapter referred to Jimenea as a "fallen hero", and Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes confirmed his death.

The UAE government has intensified its COVID-19 detection efforts, surpassing one million tests conducted nationwide.
