Filipino boxers Baricuatro, Jara settle for silver in 33rd SEA Games boxing finals

Filipino boxers Jay Baricuatro and Flint Jara reached the finals of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok.

Baricuatro advanced to the gold medal match after his opponent from Timor-Leste was stopped in the first round, but he ultimately lost a split decision to Thailand's Thitiwat Phlongaurai in the men's light flyweight final, settling for silver.

Jara secured his spot in the finals with a 5-0 win but expressed concerns about potential biased judging favoring the host country, Thailand.

However, Jara eventually lost via unanimous decision against his Thai opponent, Thanarat Saengphet, in the men's bantamweight division, securing the Philippines' third silver medal.

With Jara's loss, Olympian Eumir Marcial remains the country's lone gold medal hope in boxing.
