Filipina chess prodigy Ruelle Canino eliminated from World Cup

Filipina chess prodigy Ruelle Canino, 17, has been eliminated from the Women's Chess World Cup in Batumi, Georgia, losing 2-0 to Russian Woman Grandmaster Anna Shukhman.

Canino's participation was supported by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines and the Philippine Sports Commission.

In their second game, a 46-move match employing a French Defense, Canino suffered a defeat after an opening blunder on the queenside allowed Shukhman to gain an advantage.

The tournament follows a seven-round knockout format, with the top three finishers qualifying for the Women's Candidates Matches.

Despite her early exit, Canino, the reigning national women's champion, hopes to gain valuable experience from competing against top players.
