Balikatan: US, PH troops train on Avenger missile system

American and Filipino soldiers trained on the United States' Avenger air defense missile system, a mobile platform equipped with Stinger missiles, as part of this year's Balikatan Exercises.

The subject matter expert exchange (SMEE) took place at the Naval Education, Training and Doctrine Command (NETDC) in Zambales.

The Avenger system, mounted on a Humvee, integrates eight ready-to-fire Stinger missiles and is designed for rapid engagement of low-flying aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned aerial systems or drones.

Lt. Col. John Paul Salgado stated the exchange strengthens tactical synchronization and enhances combined operational readiness.

Lt. Gen. Fernyl Buca mentioned that the ongoing Balikatan features a simulated full-scale battle scenario to test and enhance combined operational capabilities under realistic conditions.
