FDA: All COVID-19 vaccines effective vs variants including Delta

All COVID-19 vaccines available in the Philippines are effective and provide protection against all coronavirus variants, including the Delta variant, according to FDA Director General Eric Domingo.

Domingo stated that while mutations may decrease vaccine effectiveness, the protection offered is not completely lost.

Data indicates Pfizer's vaccine maintains 93% efficacy against the Alpha variant and 88% against the Delta variant.

AstraZeneca's vaccine has an efficacy rate of 66% against the Alpha variant and 60% against the Delta variant.

Ongoing studies are evaluating the efficacy of other vaccines, with initial reports suggesting they are still useful, albeit with potentially lower efficacy.

Domingo emphasized that current vaccines still provide significant protection.
