Eumir Marcial encourages EJ Obiena after Paris Olympics heartbreak

Filipino boxer Eumir Marcial offered words of encouragement to fellow Olympian EJ Obiena after the pole vaulter narrowly missed a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Marcial, a two-time Olympian himself, also experienced an early exit in the men's 80kg boxing division.

Both athletes had to contend with injuries sustained just two weeks before the Paris Games, which significantly hampered their training.

Marcial expressed empathy for Obiena, acknowledging that certain challenges in life are beyond their control.

He noted that despite their injuries, both athletes still competed in the Olympics.

Marcial shared that it hurts because they both love what they do and it's important to them, but vowed to bounce back stronger.

He concluded with a hopeful message to Obiena, "Darating ang panahon sa atin naman ang tagumpay" which translates to "The time will come when success will be ours."
